  古代丝绸之路不仅是商贸之路，更是文化与科技的交融通道。作为古代东西方文明交流的桥梁，丝绸之路促进了不同文明在天文地理与工艺技术等领域的交流互鉴，推动了人类社会的科技文化创新，对沿线文明的发展产生了深远而积极的影响。在当今这个航天与人工智能飞速发展的时代，天文学与科技的进步将引领人类进一步探索元宇宙与外太空的全新世界。为深入探讨古代丝绸之路在天文科技领域的卓越成就与文明价值，兹定于2025年7月由兰州大学、敦煌研究院与中国科学技术大学在兰州联合举办以“古代丝绸之路上的天文与科技”为主题的第三届世界文明对话论坛。素仰阁下在丝绸之路的相关研究领域学养深厚，特诚邀您围绕以下议题惠赐大作。

  一、会议议题

  1.天文观测与星图绘制的交流：丝绸之路沿线文明都发展出了各自的天文观测体系，例如中国的浑天仪、阿拉伯世界的星盘等。此议题将探究天文仪器的传播、改进以及不同文明在星图绘制、星座划分上的交流与融合。

  2.时间与历法：探讨不同文明如何测量时间、制定历法（如中国农历、伊斯兰历、印度阴阳历与西方太阳历等），以及这些知识如何通过丝绸之路传播并产生影响。

  3.宇宙模型的碰撞与融合：探讨不同文明对宇宙结构（如地心说、日心说等）、宇宙模型的构思，以及它们如何通过丝绸之路交流和碰撞从而促进天文学的进步。

  4.材料科学与制造技术的交流：探究丝绸之路作为丝绸、陶瓷、玻璃、草药等商品的重要贸易通道如何促进不同文明在材料和药材运用与加工、制造工艺方面的交流与传播，如丝绸纺织技术、医药技术、陶瓷烧制技术、玻璃制造技术等。

  5.天文史与科技史的书写：探讨丝绸之路沿线文明关于天文、历法、医药与其他技术的史学书写，以及相关经典作品、代表性文本的比较、传播与翻译。

  6.其他与会议主题“古代丝绸之路上的天文与科技”密切相关的议题。

  二、论文要求：会议遵循“以文会友”原则。参会论文要求未公开发表的原创作品，会后将编辑专题论文集正式出版；参会论文文字要求为中文或英文，若为中文，请附英文摘要及关键词；若为英文，请附中文摘要及关键词；参会论文字数建议中文8000字以上，英文5000词以上。论坛组委会将对提交的参与论文进行评审，通过后发出正式会议邀请函。

  三、会议语言：中文或英文

  四、会议时间：2025年7月8日至7月11日（周二-周五）

  五、会议规模：正式邀请专家不超过30人（大致海外15人，国内15人）

  六、会议地点：中国·兰州

  七、会议费用：除特邀嘉宾外，参会论文经评审通过的专家，会议期间的会务、食宿费用由主办方承担，往返兰州的交通费用烦请自理；其他参会人员的交通、食宿费用敬请自理。

Call for Papers Announcement

The Third Forum on Dialogue of World Civilizations：

Astronomy, Science and Technology on the Ancient Silk Road

 

The ancient Silk Road was not only a commercial route but also a vital channel for cultural and technological exchange. Serving as a bridge between East and West, it facilitated mutual learning in areas such as astronomy, geography, and craftsmanship. This exchange fostered technological and cultural innovation, profoundly influencing the advancement of civilizations along its path. Today, amidst advancements in aerospace technology and artificial intelligence, exploring the historical achievements in astronomy and technology along the Silk Road offers valuable perspectives on humanity’s enduring quest for knowledge and our place in the cosmos.

To deeply explore the outstanding achievements and civilizational values in the field of astronomy and technology on the ancient Silk Road, the Third World Civilization Dialogue Forum with the theme “Astronomy and Technology on the Ancient Silk Road” will be jointly held by Lanzhou University, the Dunhuang Research Academy and University of Science and Technology of China in Lanzhou in July 2025. We sincerely invite you to contribute your esteemed work on the following topics.

I. Conference Topics

1. Astronomical Observations and Star Chart Mapping: This theme explores the diverse astronomical observation systems developed by civilizations along the Silk Road, such as the Chinese armillary sphere and the Arab astrolabe. Discussions will focus on the dissemination and refinement of astronomical instruments, as well as the exchange and integration of star chart mapping and constellation systems among different cultures.
2. Timekeeping and Calendrical Systems: This theme examines the various methods of time measurement and calendar construction employed by different civilizations connected by the Silk Road, including the Chinese lunar calendar, Islamic calendar, Indian lunisolar calendar, and Western solar calendar. Papers are invited to explore the transmission and influence of this knowledge across cultural boundaries.
3. Cosmological Models: Collision and Convergence: This theme investigates the diverse conceptions of the cosmos held by different civilizations along the Silk Road, such as geocentric and heliocentric models. Discussions will focus on how these ideas were exchanged, challenged, and ultimately contributed to the advancement of astronomical knowledge.
4. Material Science, Manufacturing Technology, and Medicinal Practices: Recognizing the Silk Road as a conduit for trade in goods like silk, ceramics, glass, and herbs, this theme examines the exchange and dissemination of material science knowledge, medicinal applications, and manufacturing techniques. Topics of interest include silk weaving, medical practices, ceramic firing, and glassmaking.
5. Historiography of Astronomy and Technology: This theme invites papers that explore the historical writings on astronomy, calendars, medicine, and other technologies produced by civilizations along the Silk Road. Discussions will focus on the comparison, dissemination, and translation of key texts and classical works related to these subjects.
6. Other Topics Related to "Astronomy and Technology on the Ancient Silk Road." We welcome submissions that explore other relevant themes and perspectives related to the conference's overarching focus.

II. Paper Submission Guidelines

The conference welcomes original, unpublished papers that engage with the themes outlined above. Following a rigorous review process, accepted papers will be invited for presentation and included in a forthcoming edited volume.

• Language: Papers may be submitted in either Chinese or English.
• Abstracts and Keywords: All submissions must include both an English abstract and keywords, as well as a Chinese abstract and keywords.
• Length: Papers should be a minimum of 8,000 characters (Chinese) or 5,000 words (English) in length.
• Publication: A selection of papers will be published in an edited volume following the conference.

III. Conference Language

The official languages of the conference are Chinese and English.

Tuesday, July 8 - Friday, July 11, 2025

V. Conference Participants

The conference will host a select group of approximately 30 formally invited experts, with an equal representation of scholars from China and overseas institutions.

VII. Conference Expenses

• Invited Experts: The organizing committee will cover all expenses for invited experts, including travel to and from Lanzhou, accommodation, and meals during the conference.
• Participants with Accepted Papers (Non-Invited): The organizing committee will cover accommodation and meals during the conference for participants whose papers are accepted. Travel expenses to and from Lanzhou are the responsibility of the participant.

Conference Registration Deadline: April 8, 2025. Please send the conference receipt (Word document attachment) to rcrc@lzu.edu.cn before this date.

Paper Submission Deadline: May 8, 2025. After the conference receipt is accepted, please send the full text of the paper (Word document attachment) to rcrc@lzu.edu.cn before this date.

Notification of Paper Acceptance: Formal conference invitations will be sent by June 8, 2025.
